One of the most common car-washing questions is also one of the easiest to get wrong: how much shampoo should you actually use? Unlike a spray-on APC or snow foam, car shampoo isn't mixed to a tight product-to-water ratio — it's dosed per bucket. Here's how much to use, and why more suds don't mean a cleaner car.
How Much Car Shampoo Per Bucket?
Concentrated car shampoos are designed to be used sparingly — typically 10–20ml in a standard 10–15 litre wash bucket. Bahama Blue sits right in that range at 15ml per bucket.
Always add the shampoo to the water (not the other way round) so it mixes evenly and foams in the bucket rather than on top.
| Shampoo | Dose Per Bucket | Washes Per Bottle* |
|---|---|---|
| Bahama Blue 500ml | 15 ml | ~33 |
| Bahama Blue 1 Litre | 15 ml | ~66 |
| Bahama Blue 5 Litre | 15 ml | ~330 |
* Approximate, based on one 15ml dose per bucket.

Why More Shampoo Doesn't Clean Better
It's tempting to add an extra glug for more suds — but foam isn't what cleans your car. A good shampoo works through lubrication: it lets dirt slide off the paint with minimal friction, reducing the risk of swirls. Once you've got enough lubrication, extra product adds nothing except cost and rinse-off time. Over-dosing can also leave residue and make the finish harder to dry cleanly.
The best wash isn't the sudsiest — it's the one with the right dose and safe technique.
