280GSM means a shallow pile with plenty of surface contact — the opposite of a drying towel, and exactly what you want for scrubbing a door shut or wiping down an engine bay. Buy them in tens, assign a colour to a job, and keep this one for the dirty work so your plush cloths stay that way.

Why You'll Love It
Every kit needs one cloth you'll happily use on a wheel arch or an engine bay. This is it. Cheap enough not to think about, good enough that it still does the job properly.
Interior plastics, door shuts, sills, engine bays, wheels, pedals, coating removal, wiping your hands mid-job. The list really is that long, which is the entire point of the product.
Green and grey so you can assign a colour to a job. On a cloth used for the dirtiest work, keeping it away from the paintwork pile matters more than anywhere else in the range.
Nobody uses one general purpose cloth. A pack of ten means there's always a clean one, and you stop rationing a cloth that costs less than a coffee.
What Is A General Purpose Microfibre Cloth?
Every other cloth in this range is built for one job. The drying towel holds water. The coral fleece handles wet work. The glass cloth finishes without leaving film. Each of those is a specialist, and each is worth protecting.
This one is the opposite, and that is deliberate. At 280GSM it has a shallow, flat pile — a modest amount of fibre, close to the base cloth. That means it does not hold much liquid and it does not have the depth to keep grit away from a delicate surface. What it does have is a lot of contact with whatever you are wiping, which is exactly what you want for general cleaning: getting into a door shut, taking grime off a sill, wiping down an engine bay, cleaning a wheel.
The real argument for it is not performance, it's behaviour. If the only cloths in your kit are good ones, you will end up using a good one on a wheel arch, and that cloth is then finished for paintwork. Having a stack of cheap, capable cloths for the dirty work is what keeps your plush cloths plush. Detailers do not buy general purpose cloths because they are the best cloth in the drawer — they buy them so the best cloth in the drawer stays that way.
"The point of a general purpose cloth isn't that it does everything well. It's that it does the dirty jobs, so your good cloths never have to."

How To Use It
Decide by colour: one for interior, one for shuts and wheels. A general purpose cloth is only safe on paint if it has never been on an arch.
Eight faces. On dirty work you'll get through them quickly, and moving to a clean one is what stops you spreading grime rather than lifting it.
Engine bays and arches will load a cloth fast. Rinse in clean water between areas rather than pushing the same dirt around.
30°C with Duel Laundry, and keep the dirty-job cloths in their own wash load, separate from anything that touches paint.
Which Cloth For Which Job?
| Cloth | GSM | Best at | Reach for it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra-Fine Glass Cloth | 260 | Glass, streak-free | Windscreens, windows, mirrors, screens |
| General Purpose (this one) | 280 | Everyday and dirty work | Door shuts, sills, engine bays, wheels, pedals, general wiping |
| Waffle Glass | 450 | Absorbing on glass | Cleaning genuinely dirty glass before the finishing pass |
| Coral Fleece | 500 | Wet work and delicate paint | Detailers, spray waxes, interior trim, soft or dark paint |
| Triple Twisted Loop | 1400 | Drying a whole car | After the final rinse |
The simple rule is that pile depth buys you safety, and safety costs money. A shallow pile has lots of contact and little cushioning — ideal for scrubbing a sill, wrong for a dark bonnet. Buy this one in quantity for the jobs that ruin cloths, and keep the plusher cloths for the surfaces that show every mistake. The Utility cloth sits outside this table: it's two-faced (smooth microfibre one side, waffle texture the other), built for applying and buffing in a single cloth, rather than being defined by pile weight alone.
