Waffle weave is microfibre with a honeycomb grid built into the construction, so the surface is ridges and pockets rather than one flat plane. The ridges do the cleaning, the pockets hold what gets lifted. At 450GSM it absorbs far more than a flat cloth of the same size, which is what keeps it working all the way round the car without becoming saturated and starting to push moisture around instead of lifting it.

What Is A Waffle Weave, And Why Use One On Glass?
A waffle weave is microfibre constructed with a raised grid running through it, so the surface is a honeycomb of ridges and recessed square pockets rather than one flat plane. It is the same fibre used across the range, arranged so that a large part of the cloth sits below the plane that touches the glass.
That gap is the whole point. When a flat cloth meets a dirty window there is nowhere for the dirt to go — it sits between the cloth and the glass and gets pushed around the pane, which is what produces the classic smeared, swirled finish that looks worse than before you started. A waffle weave gives contamination somewhere to fall into. The ridges do the wiping, the pockets do the storing, and the dirt comes off the glass instead of touring it.
The second effect is capacity. Those pockets hold a great deal more liquid than a flat weave of the same size, which matters more than people expect on glass. A cloth that saturates halfway round the car stops absorbing and starts redistributing, and every pane after that point gets worse rather than better. At 450GSM with the pocket volume of a waffle, this one keeps working.
The trade-off is honest: a waffle weave does not finish as clean as an ultra-fine flat weave. For the last pass — the dry buff that removes the final invisible film — you want the flat cloth. That is why these two exist as a pair rather than as alternatives.

How To Use It
Eight faces. The pockets fill with what they lift, so move to a fresh face more often than you would on paint. Keep this cloth for glass only — one wax job is enough to start smearing.
Mist Optical onto the cloth. Spraying the pane means overspray on the dash and cleaner running down into the seals.
Horizontal on the outside, vertical on the inside, so a streak found later tells you which side it's on. Let the ridges do the work rather than pressing.
Go over the pane again with a clean unused face, or better, with the Ultra-Fine Glass Cloth. This removes the last invisible film and is the step that decides whether the glass is genuinely clear in low sun.
