Before You Start

Three Rules That Matter

Most beginner mistakes happen before a single drop of product is used. Follow these three rules first.

Car in shadeRule 01

Never Wash In Direct Sunlight

Heat dries products too quickly and can leave streaks and water spots. Try to clean the car when the paint feels cool to the touch. Early mornings or overcast days are ideal.

Dirty alloy wheelRule 02

Always Start With The Wheels

Wheels are usually the dirtiest part of the car. Cleaning them first stops brake dust and grime splashing back onto freshly cleaned paint.

Top to bottom washRule 03

Work From Top To Bottom

The lower parts of the car hold the most dirt. Starting at the roof and working down helps avoid dragging grime across cleaner areas.

Exterior Cleaning Routine

Five Steps. Done Right.

Clean The Wheels

Axis Acid Free Wheel Cleaner

Brake dust and road grime build up quickly on wheels. Leaving it too long can permanently damage finishes. Axis is designed to safely break down dirt without using harsh acids.

Dilution Guide
Light Dirt 1:10
Medium Dirt 1:5
Heavy Dirt 1:3
  • 1 Rinse the wheels first
  • 2 Spray Axis evenly onto the wheel face and barrel
  • 3 Leave for 1–2 minutes
  • 4 Agitate with a brush or mitt if needed
  • 5 Rinse thoroughly
Beginner TipDo not let wheel cleaner dry onto the wheel surface. Keep it wet until rinsed.
Pre-Wash

Pre-Wash The Car

Nitty Pre-Wash & Degreaser

This is one of the most important steps beginners skip. A pre-wash helps loosen heavy dirt before you touch the paint with a wash mitt. This helps reduce scratches and swirl marks significantly.

Dilution Guide
Light Dirt 1:20
Medium Dirt 1:10
Heavy Grime 1:5

Focus on: lower doors, sills, bumpers, rear of the vehicle, heavily dirty areas.

  • 1 Spray onto dirty areas
  • 2 Leave to dwell for several minutes
  • 3 Do not allow it to dry
  • 4 Rinse thoroughly
Beginner TipThe cleaner the paint before contact washing, the safer the wash. Never skip this step.

Step 03 — Contact WashContact Wash

Wash The Car Safely

Bahama Blue Shampoo + Duel Microfibre Wash Mitt

This is the contact wash stage. The goal is not to scrub the paint — it's to safely remove the remaining dirt without damaging the finish.

Bucket 2

Clean rinse water
Rinse mitt after each panel

  • 1 Fill wash bucket with water and shampoo
  • 2 Fill second bucket with clean rinse water
  • 3 Soak the wash mitt in shampoo
  • 4 Wash one panel at a time, top to bottom
  • 5 Rinse mitt in the clean bucket after every panel
  • 6 Rinse the vehicle thoroughly
Beginner TipAvoid sponges. They trap dirt against the paint and cause scratches. Always use a proper microfibre wash mitt.
Protection

Apply Protection

Flex Polymer Sealant

Protection improves gloss, repels water, keeps the car cleaner for longer, and makes future washes significantly easier. This is the step most beginners skip — and regret.

  • 1 Add 50ml Flex to 250ml water in a foam lance
  • 2 Apply evenly across the vehicle
  • 3 Leave for 1–2 minutes
  • 4 Rinse thoroughly
Beginner TipA protected car is easier to maintain and dries better after every wash. Do it once and feel the difference.
Step 04 — ProtectionFlex Polymer Sealant
Step 05 — DryDrying Towel
Drying

Dry The Car

Duel Triple Twisted Loop Drying Towel

Drying incorrectly is one of the easiest ways to scratch paint. A proper drying towel safely absorbs water without needing heavy pressure.

  • 1 Lay the towel flat onto the panel
  • 2 Gently drag across the surface — no pressure
  • 3 Repeat panel by panel until fully dry
Beginner TipNever use old bath towels or household cloths on automotive paint. The fibres are too coarse and will cause fine scratches.
Interior Cleaning Routine

Inside, Done Properly.

Three simple steps. Vacuum first, then clean — always in that order.

Step 01Vacuum Interior

Vacuum The Interior

Equipment — Vacuum + Soft Brush Attachment

Before using any cleaners: remove rubbish, vacuum carpets, clean mats, vacuum seat gaps and door pockets.

TipUse a soft brush attachment to avoid scratching plastics and trim panels.
Step 02Clean Plastics

Clean Plastics & Trim

Satin Interior Cleaner & Dressing

Many interior products leave dashboards greasy and shiny. Satin is designed to leave a clean, factory-style finish instead.

  • Spray onto a microfibre cloth
  • Wipe plastics and trim
  • Buff lightly if needed
TipLess product usually gives a better finish inside the car. Don't overspray.
Step 03Clean Glass

Clean The Glass

Optical Glass Cleaner

Clean glass makes a huge difference to how fresh a car feels — and how safe it is to drive.

  • Spray lightly onto the glass or cloth
  • Wipe evenly across the surface
  • Flip the cloth to the dry side
  • Buff until completely clear
TipUsing too much glass cleaner causes smearing. Less is always more.
What To Avoid

Common Beginner Mistakes

01

Using Too Much Product

More chemical does not mean better cleaning. Over-concentrating causes streaking, residue, and poor rinse behaviour. Always start with the recommended dilution and adjust from there.

02

Washing In Circles

Circular motions create swirl marks that are clearly visible in direct sunlight. Use gentle, straight-line motions following the body panels. This is one of the most important habits to build early.

03

Skipping The Pre-Wash

This is the single biggest cause of swirl marks and fine scratches. The pre-wash removes heavy contamination before you touch the paint. Without it, your wash mitt drags grit across the finish.

04

Using Dirty Cloths

A dirty microfibre cloth is just as damaging as using no cloth at all. Always use clean microfibres on every panel. Wash your cloths regularly and store them away from dust.
